Project Summary

This project is located at the Municipality of Dorado. It begins at the mouth of the La Plata river and ends at 430 meters north of State Road PR-165R bridge.


The works included channel excavation, levee construction, including chimney and finger drains, excavated material, temporary depot areas, material disposal areas, wetland mitigation areas with estuarine lagoon, culverts, relief well, stone protection, utilities relocation and incidental related works.

The Scope

  • Channel excavation was originally estimated at 380,000 cubic meters with 124,000 cubic meters of channel dredging excavation.
  • Levee fill of 270,000 cubic meters..
  • Compensatory wetland mitigation plan of 315,000 square meters including the site preparation for the planting of 120,000 mangrove and 700,000 wetland herbaceous vegetation plants.
  • Channel bedding and riprap protection of 60,000 cubic meters.
  • Construction of structures: culverts with double 72 and 84-inch diameter pipes, headwalls and check valves.
  • Pavement roads, fences and guardrail.
  • Drainage structures, waterways and erosion control.
